The back teeth on both sides of the upper and lower jaw, wisdom teeth are the last to erupt. In most cases, there are no complications. There may, however, be insufficient space in the jaw to allow their correct positioning. Food and bacteria can be difficult to clean from partially erupted teeth, causing an infection in the gum called pericoronitis. It can become persistent, causing pain and discomfort.
